According to myth the battlefield where the Amazons suffered a crushing defeat against Dionysos and his war elephants, was at the foot of Stefana Hill, right across this plateau. In ancient times the place was known as Panaima, bloody field. The soil is still red. - Samos Airport gallérie photo
